AFRICAN HISTORY—two positions
The Department of History of Dartmouth College invites nominations and applications for two tenure-track positions in African History to begin July 1, 2008. One of the positions will be open rank, and the other will be at the rank of assistant professor. Research specialization is open, but candidates who focus on South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, African diaspora, Africa in the Atlantic World, Africa and the Indian Ocean, or Africa and the Islamic World are especially encouraged to apply. Advanced Assistant Professor to Full Professor Sikh/Punjabi and South
Asian History Sarabjit Singh Aurora Endowed Chair in Sikh and Punjabi
Studies

The History Department of the University of California, Santa Cruz
invites applicants at the Advanced Assistant to Full Professor rank
for the Sarabjit Singh Aurora Endowed Chair in Sikh and Punjabi
Studies. The department welcomes applications from scholars who
approach Sikh/Punjabi Studies and South Asian history from a range of
perspectives, including the study of the British Empire and the Asian
diaspora (to destinations that might include the U.S.). The
successful candidate will teach, in addition to courses in her/his
specialty, general survey courses in South Asian history, and is
expected to contribute to the continuing development of the World
History undergraduate and graduate curricula. This position carries
a five-course equivalency workload, which normally means teaching
four courses over three quarters and carrying out other academic and
service responsibilities.

The holder of the Sarabjit Singh Aurora Endowed Chair also will work
with the History Department and the Humanities Division to administer
the endowment funds. These will be available to support graduate
students, the Chair holder’s research, and other intellectual and
curricular initiatives. If the selected individual is at the
Assistant Professor rank, the Chairship will be held until the
individual attains tenure at the rank of Associate Professor.

The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute
to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through
their research, teaching, and service.

RANK: Advanced Assistant Professor to Full Professor

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in History or a
related discipline, demonstrated excellence in research productivity
and in teaching and, at the most senior level, a record of
administrative experience.

Indiana University
The Department of History at Indiana University, Bloomington, seeks to hire a scholar (open rank) whose teaching and research interests will provide direction and leadership for our World History field. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated reputation as a scholar of a thematic area, such as migration, trade patterns, colonialism, imperialism, economic development, global business, environment, or technology. The candidate will be expected to teach World History courses at the undergraduate level and to participate in efforts to build and maintain a World History minor at the PhD level. The anticipated start date is Fall 2008.
