CFP: “An Island at the Center of the World”: Reconsidering Ireland’s Role on the Global Stage

Drew University has issued a call for papers for the 6th Annual Dean Hopper Conference, “An Island at the Center of the World”: Reconsidering Ireland’s Role on the Global Stage, to be held 20–21 April 2018 in Madison, N.J. Proposals are due 15 February 2018.

The conference aims to examine Ireland’s historical, cultural, and political connections with the rest of the world, while expanding conversations surrounding Ireland’s role on the international stage in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and engaging issues of spatiality through concepts of peripheries, diasporas, and their related power structures in Ireland and abroad. (For further information, see the conference site.) Related papers from all disciplines are welcomed in Irish or English.

Keynote addresses will be delivered by Prof. Barry McCrea of the University of Notre Dame’s Department of English and playright and artist Laurence McKeown.

Abstracts (250 words) and CVs (or 100-word biographies) maybe submitted by e-mail to Rebecca Van Horn and Patrick J. Mahony <hopper@drew.edu>.
