William H. McNeill Teacher Fellowship for travel support and registration fee waivers at the annual conference:

William H. McNeill (1917-2016) (picture at right) was a pioneering American historian who spent much of his career teaching world history at the University of Chicago. In addition to inspiring scores of young historians at the University of Chicago, McNeill was well known for his more than 20 books and numerous other publications that argued that contact and exchange among civilizations is what drives human history forward. He first published his approach in The Rise of the West: A History of the Human Community (1963).
'
When McNeill retired in 1987, he noted in an interview that “History has to look at the whole world. And that means you have to know how the rest of the world is, how it got to be the way it is.”

The World History Association is able to offer one William H. McNeill Teacher Fellowship annually, which provides up to $500 for travel and registration at the conference to a K-14 teacher presenting an individual paper at the conference.
