WHA fall 2026 webinars offer opportunities to hear about the latest initiatives and/or projects in World History
The fall season of the World History Association webinars kicked off in September and has covered and will continue to examine a wide ray of topics.

We have two webinars coming up:

On Tuesday, October 27 at 3 PM Eastern, Sven Beckert (Harvard University) will discuss "Rethinking Capitalism: Exploring its Global Roots and Transnational Transmission." Beckert is the author of the WHA's 2026 Bentley Book Prize for his massive tome, Capitalism: A Global History (Penguin Press, 2025).

On Tuesday, November 10 at 7 PM Eastern, Geraldine Heng (University of Texas, Austin) and Brad Phillis (Appalachian State University) will discuss their Global Middle Ages project in a webinar entitled :Early Global Studies Today: What We're Doing, Why, and How You Can be Part of Our Projects." ​

Earlier this fall, our first webinar, on September 22, featured Professors James Millward and Chandra Manning (Georgetown University) discussing their "Citizen Historians" project to document what is disappearing at the Smithsonian and other federal sites. The October 6 webinar featured Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) curators Clarissa Esguerra and Shannon Vittoria discussing the thinking behind the newly installed and thoroughly global history oriented, David Geffen Galleries at LACMA. This webinar was also recorded; due to copyright restrictions it will only be available to World History Association members. The link will be posted shortly.
Planning for our 36th annual WHA conference from June 27-29, 2027 in Pittsburgh is well underway
We are at the Call for Proposals stage for our 36th annual World History Association conference from June 27 through June 29 at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. The deadline for proposals is October 19.

Information about the conference is already posted on our website. Early registration rates will be available through February 15, 2027. Financial assistance opportunities are also featured on our website.
Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines
Eager to attend the 36th annual WHA annual conference in Pittsburgh but in need of some support? Consider applying for our William H. McNeill teacher scholarship, our World Scholar travel fund support, and/or our conference fee waivers. If you are a K-14 educator, our partners at OER are underwriting 40 free registrations at the conference. The deadline for OER free registrations is rolling, so consider applying now. The deadline for travel support is February 1, 2027
Be recognized for your scholarship. Whether it's a paper that you've written, a dissertation you've just submitted, a book you've published, or an article in World History Connected, we are eager for you to apply to be considered for one of our prizes. Please visit our website for specific deadlines for each of the prizes. Recipients are announced at the annual conference in late June.
Making our voices heard
We are an organization focused on global history both past and present. Threats to education--in terms of both access and curricula--concern us. We take positions. We use our collective voices, at the urging of members and after democratic voting by our members, to speak out on issues that matter, whether most recently with respect to scholasticide in Gaza or limits to world history instruction in the state of Texas.
