Governance of the World History Association

In 1987, several years after the World History Association was initially constituted, the organization was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in New York State, even though most of its leadership was spread throughout the United States.   The Association's first governing document was its certification of incorporation.

At the world history convening at Wingspread in Racine, Wisconsin in 1983, work began on a constitution for the organization.  The constitution and the bylaws that followed have seen several minor revisions and the addition of the by-laws in intervening years, but it is the document by which the World History Association organizes its affairs and maintains continuity and good stewardship.

The World History Association instituted a professional behavior policy in 2023 that incorporates its policies on harassment, bullying, social media, and how it will address any violations.
